Tramadol

This pain relief medication, Tramadol is available in the strength of 50mg as over-the-counter medication that is it does not necessitate any prescription for usage. It works on the mechanism of decreasing the body's sense of pain, and is effectual relieving moderate to moderately severe pain.

Using Tramadol in Children

Tramadol is not approved for use in children under the age of 16. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using the drug in children.

How Tramadol Taken

Tramadol comes as a tablet to take it orally. It usually is taken every 4-6 hours as needed. It may be taken with or without food. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Tramadol exactly as directed. Tramadol can be habit-forming. Do not take a larger dose take it more often, or for a longer period than your doctor tells you to.

Tramadol side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using tramadol and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

• seizure (convulsions);
• a red, blistering, peeling skin rash; or
• shallow breathing, weak pulse.

Less serious side effects may include:

• dizziness, drowsiness, weakness;
• nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite;
• blurred vision;
• flushing (redness, warmth, or tingly feeling); or
• sleep problems (insomnia).

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.

What should I avoid while taking tramadol?

Do not drink alcohol while you are taking tramadol. Alcohol may cause a dangerous decrease in your breathing when used together with tramadol. Cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by tramadol. Tell your doctor if you regularly use any of these other medicines. Tramadol can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

Storage

Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.
