Motrin

Motrin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug available in both prescription and nonprescription forms. Prescription Motrin is used in adults for relief of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, treatment of menstrual pain, and relief of mild to moderate pain. In children aged 6 months and older it can be given to reduce fever and relieve mild to moderate pain. It is also used to relieve the symptoms of juvenile arthritis.

Ask a doctor before use if you have:

problems or serious side effects from taking pain relievers or fever reducers; stomach problems that last or come back, such as heartburn, upset stomach, or stomach pain; ulcers; bleeding problems; high blood pressure; heart or kidney disease; taken a diuretic; reached age 60 or older

How To Take

Take ibuprofen tablets or caplets by mouth. Follow the directions on the label. Swallow tablets whole with a full glass of water; take tablets in an upright or sitting position. Taking a sip of water first, before taking the tablets, may help you swallow them. If possible take bedtime doses at least 10 minutes before lying down. Ibuprofen may be taken with food if it upsets your stomach. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.

Special warnings about motrin:

Peptic ulcers and bleeding can occur without warning. Tell your doctor if you have bleeding or any other problems.

This drug should be used with caution if you have kidney or liver disease, or are severely dehydrated; it can cause liver or kidney inflammation or other problems in some people. Do not take aspirin or any other anti-inflammatory medications while taking Motrin unless your doctor tells you to do so. If you have a severe allergic reaction, seek medical help immediately.

Motrin may cause vision problems. If you experience any changes in your vision, inform your doctor. Mortin may prolong bleeding time. If you are taking blood-thinning medication, this drug should be taken with caution.

This drug can cause water retention. It should be used with caution if you have high blood pressure or poor heart function. Avoid the use of alcohol while taking this medication.

Motrin may mask the usual signs of infection or other diseases. Use with care in the presence of an existing infection.

If you have diabetes, remember that the suspension contains 1.5 grams of sucrose and 8 calories per teaspoonful.

Motrin chewable tablets contain phenylalanine. If you have a hereditary disease called phenylketonuria, you should be aware of this.

Precaution

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, liver disease, poorly controlled diabetes, stomach/intestine/esophagus problems (e.g., bleeding, ulcers, recurring heartburn), heart disease (e.g., congestive heart failure, history of heart attack), high blood pressure, stroke, swelling (edema, fluid retention), dehydration, blood disorders (e.g., anemia), bleeding or clotting problems, asthma, growths in the nose (nasal polyps), history of an allergic reaction with symptoms of lip/tongue/throat swelling (angioedema), any allergies in addition to those listed above.

Drug Interactions:

ACE inhibitors; agents that treat or prevent blood clots such as warfarin or other 'blood thinners'; agents that affect platelets; alcohol; alendronate; aspirin and aspirin-like medicines; cyclosporine; drospirenone; ethinyl estradiol (Yasmin(reg)); herbal products that contain feverfew, garlic, ginger, or ginkgo biloba; lithium; methotrexate; other antiinflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen or prednisone); water pills (diuretics).

Motrin Oral Storage

Store at room temperature according to product instructions away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
